Burkina Faso, 21st Happiest Country in Africa According to WHR 2025

Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso ranks 21st in Africa and 120th globally in the latest World Happiness Report (WHR) 2025. This ranking is thought-provoking, but it does not overshadow the resilience and solidarity of the Burkinabè people, essential values highlighted by this report.

The WHR 2025, published on March 20, 2025, explores the theme of “caring and sharing.” It reveals a surprising finding: people significantly underestimate the kindness of their communities. In reality, acts of solidarity, such as returning lost wallets, are much more frequent than expected

The report emphasizes a crucial link: trust in the benevolence of others is a powerful factor of happiness. This data resonates particularly in Burkina Faso, where solidarity and mutual aid are deeply rooted values.
Challenges and Resilience: Burkina Faso Facing Adversity
The ranking of Burkina Faso must be analyzed in light of the socio-economic and security challenges the country faces. These challenges undeniably impact the factors of happiness, such as social support, income, and health.

However, local initiatives are emerging, demonstrating the resilience and solidarity of the Burkinabè people. Community projects strengthen social bonds, entrepreneurs innovate, and solidarity actions multiply.
The WHR 2025 also explores the link between unhappiness, social distrust, and populism, as well as the impact of charitable donations on well-being. These themes are relevant in a global context marked by social tensions.
