A human tide flooded Revolution Square in Ouagadougou this Tuesday, April 30, 2025. Under a scorching sun, thousands of Burkinabè responded to the call of the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations to reaffirm their support for Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who is the target of attacks deemed hostile and unfounded, originating from abroad. In an electrifying atmosphere, punctuated by patriotic songs, slogans, and placards, this mobilization comes in response to accusations by General Michael Langley, which have sparked a wave of indignation in Burkina Faso and beyond. For the demonstrators, this demonstration of solidarity could have extended over several days, reflecting a collective will for unity in the face of external pressures.
Prime Minister Emmanuel Ouédraogo addressed the crowd with strong and assured words. He affirmed that Burkina Faso remains standing, united behind a president who embodies sovereignty, African dignity, and the categorical refusal of any foreign domination. He emphasized that Captain Ibrahim Traoré, despite external pressures and political maneuvers against him, remains unwavering.”The captain tells you that his determination and serenity remain intact. That all these maneuvers that are being plotted do not affect his morale in any way,” he declared. He then highlighted the central role of the people in this fight for national sovereignty. According to him, without popular engagement, no lasting transformation would be possible.
“The captain draws his energy from your mobilization. You are one of his sources of energy. What the imperialists have forgotten is that 1987 is not 2025. In 2025, the freedom fighters are standing. And we will unite to defend Captain Ibrahim Traoré. Comrades, more than ever, we must stand firm. What is happening on April 30, 2025, is shaking imperialism,” he emphasized. Many, driven by national fervor, put aside their professional obligations to respond to the call. For them, this mobilization was not just a simple gathering, but a cause that transcends individual interests, a strong act of resilience against imperialist maneuvers and the accusations of American General Michael Langley.”We came out today to show the whole world that we are with comrade Captain Ibrahim Traoré and that Burkina Faso is in the process of building itself,” said Amadou Kaboré, a patriot visibly moved by the scale of the mobilization. For him, it is not just symbolic support, but a deep commitment to the dignity of the country. “The United States is for Americans, just as Burkina Faso belongs to Burkinabè. We will no longer accept foreign voices dictating how to manage our resources.” Then, with a sharp tone, he added, “If some do not like the captain, they can leave the ship.” According to him, the Burkinabè have chosen their path and will follow it with determination. The meeting concluded calmly, with an invitation to strengthen citizen watch, national solidarity, and vigilance against the information war.
