As part of their intensified actions in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has carried out significant seizures of tons of illicit substances and the arrest of influential figures in the country. These include Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, a businessman from Lekki, Omoruyi Terry, and four other suspects, as reported by APA.
Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, a businessman from Lekki, was apprehended while awaiting the delivery of 60 parcels of “Loud,” a potent variety of cannabis, from the United States. Authorities seized 32.24 kilograms of cannabis, along with drug repackaging accessories, during a search of his residence. A restaurant owner in Lekki, he claimed to have started his trafficking activities in 2017.
Two days later, on March 26, 2025, Omoruyi Terry, a logistics agent based in Italy and a frequent traveler, was intercepted before his flight at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He was attempting to export 1,400 pills of tramadol, a 225 mg opioid, to Italy.
On March 28, in Katsina, four other suspects were arrested during an NDLEA operation in Godai. Authorities seized 684 blocks of compressed cannabis and 86,000 diazepam pills.
The traffickers demonstrated particular ingenuity in their concealment methods. In Lagos, the NDLEA intercepted packages containing cocaine concealed in jars of face cream destined for Australia. Additionally, prayer beads containing cocaine were discovered, illustrating the traffickers’ creativity in circumventing controls.
Significant seizures took place in various regions, including Enugu, Kwara, Oyo, and Niger State, where shipments of cannabis and other psychoactive substances were intercepted. These actions reflect the authorities’ commitment to combating drug trafficking nationwide.
Despite these successes, the fight against drugs remains a challenge. The NDLEA hopes to put an end to these illicit activities through its awareness campaigns, including conferences in schools and communities.
The NDLEA Chairman, General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the agents for their dedication and expressed his Eid el-Fitr wishes, calling for a safer, drug-free society.
